Question: Why is the Town of Amherst engaging online?

Traditional public engagement or community involvement usually involves attending a public meeting or providing written submissions to council, and this can often be time consuming and inconvenient, and sometimes intimidating. However, Engage Amherst gives you the opportunity to have your say on issues that are important to you, at a time and place of your choice.

  • It is a quick, safe, and convenient way to have your say on a range of issues and topics.
  • It is a great way to keep up to date and contribute your views on issues affecting your community.
  • You can see what other community members think about an issue or topic, respond with your own views and engage in a discussion.
  • You do not have to attend community meetings at a set place and time, you can contribute at a time and place that suits you.
  • It allows for a range of different people, with different views to discuss matters that may impact their community.

Elena asked about 3 years ago

Hi Elena, Thank you for questions and suggestions! Our Community Participation Officer team is continuing to work on ways to reach those who may not have access to the internet. The Engage Amherst platform is also designed as mobile first, which makes engaging via a smart phone very easy as well, since many rely on a phone as their main internet enabled device. We'd love to hear your ideas re: reaching those who are not currently online. We're currently in a "soft launch" of the platform, to ensure the usability and to identify any problems or bugs. In the next week or so we will be more widely promoting the platform through a variety of channels including press/local media, ACTV, notices on our Downtown info signs and more. We'd love to continue hearing from you regarding your ideas and concerns. I really like your suggestion of a mailer and will look in to that!
