Leap into kindness outline of human head with heart as brain

From February 29, 2024 to April 27, 2024 the Town of Amherst's Recreation and Public Health departments will host a series of events and happenings to help spread kindness and foster mental wellness in our community.

We probably all realize that it's good to be kind and that being generous with our fellow human beings benefits both the giver and the receiver. But did you know that there is research showing that kindness and generosity are actually good for your health?

Studies show that being kind and compassionate has clear benefits for health and well-being. It reduces stress, improves mood, boosts self-esteem and may even help us live longer!* Acts of kindness include simple gestures like offering your seat to someone on the bus or bringing cookies to work.

We are launching a Kindness Campaign to foster a culture of compassion, generosity, and goodwill throughout the community as a way to support our collective mental wellness. We encourage you to share your acts of kindness on this website using the Important Links tab to the right and by uploading photos and stories that others can comment on through the link below. You can also get more information about the upcoming mental wellness series and other events such as the Community Clean-up Day in the Key Dates section and can access materials to spread the word about this campaign on the Posters tab.

With everything going on in the world and in our community, the kindness campaign aims to send a message of hope and to remind us that we all can help to make a kinder society by coming together to express kindness and support for each other. We hope you will join us!
