Your comments and feedback are highly valued and we want to continue to hear from you.The Town Council is beginning its annual evaluation of the Amherst Town Manager, Paul Bockelman. We specifically invite you as a community member to join in this effort by submitting comments to us by midnight on Thursday, October 31, 2024.The Town Council conducts this annual evaluation to assess the Town Manager&rsquo;s performance, identify areas for improvement, and set future goals in line with the Town Council&rsquo;s Goals for the Town Manager. At the conclusion of this process, the Town Council develops new Town Manager Performance Goals for the coming year. This establishes the criteria for next year&rsquo;s evaluation of the Town Manager. During the evaluation process, the council gathers feedback from various stakeholders including town employees, board and committee members, and the broader community to gain a well-rounded perspective on the Town Manager&rsquo;s effectiveness. This comprehensive evaluation process underscores the Town Council&rsquo;s commitment to effective governance and community engagement. The Town Manager&rsquo;s Performance Goals include both policy and management goals covering a multitude of topics important to the community. Also featured again this year is the opportunity for the public to read the Town Manager&rsquo;s self-evaluation. Town Manager Performance Evaluation 2024

The Town of Amherst is launching a town-wide solar assessment. The Town has contracted GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) to provide technical support throughout this process, that will include a survey, virtual and multiple in-person options for the community to engage and share their thoughts about solar development in Amherst.

Amherst Solar Assessment Project

The North Common is at the crossroads of Downtown Amherst. It is located at the center of our civic life. While the South Common provides a big open space for fairs, large gatherings and the Farmer’s Market, the North Common is a quieter, shaded, more intimate space. We want to make the North Common attractive and welcoming for residents and visitors alike, to bring people to Downtown Amherst, especially as we emerge from the effects of COVID-19, aiding the restaurants and retailers by providing an attraction to draw people to our Downtown.Nearly 8 years of work went into formulating a design for the North Commons, beginning in 2013 with multiple public forums, to concept designs in 2018, culminating in approval from Town Council on March 22, 2021 of a preliminary plan. On Monday, May 24th, the Town Council held a public hearing and confirmed their March 22 vote in favor of Plan 3B to convert the Main Street parking lot into a pedestrian plaza.In the coming months, Town staff will finalize the design for the North Common with opportunities for feedback and input from members of the public.
